ABOUT STEPAN KRASNOV

stepan krasnov.jpg

In 1997, Stepan started his artistic practices with traditional graffiti. These days his working field has spread and moved from public space to galleries and museums. The artist calls his style "neo-pointillism". Thus, he mixes plastic techniques of traditional painting with digital elements.
The main theme of Stepan’s new artworks is — censorship, i. e. withholding the information, misrepresentation, or complete blocking. It always was and still is a very urgent issue for artists, musicians, film directors, especially in Russia. Besides, this idea is also related to the Internet sphere controlled by the government. Before our eyes, dystopia becomes a regular regime. It also may be noticed from Stepan’s opaque paintings: real subject, which can be anything, from advertisement to political propaganda, is hidden.
