Sergey Karev makes fun of everyday world and mundane desires by modifying familiar objects, combining their habitual forms and clothing them in metal, both literally and figuratively. Sergey has been working with the material for more than ten years, thus, he learnt and understood all the nuances of casting and welding techniques. Metal is a lively and contradictory medium, so it takes time to comprehend a sense of it. The artist is just consumed by the nature of steel, which combines contrasting features so that cold and hard metal gives in, melts and changes the shape only under heating.

Dreaming is one of the central themes in Sergey Karev’s artworks. Grotesque, tricks of the imagination, a mixture of subjects and their removal from habitual environment may be traced to the artistic creation. “A special emotion is concealed inside each object, the one I am trying to extract by depicting the piece as a stand-alone sculpture” - believes Sergey.
