ABOUT KONSTANTIN BENKOVICH
Although Konstantin has gained a full degree in art education, he really found himself in art only three years ago. As the main medium, the artist uses steel rebar, which appears to be some kind of an aggressive symbol, etymologically referring to the Latin "arma" — "armament”. In Russia, this material is often associated with a lack of freedom and prison bars.
The major source of inspiration for Konstantin is art strictly connected to socio-political context. His work is a reflection on significant events of the past, and sometimes it is a reaction to current events.
The main motives in the artist’s work are images of mass culture. Through rethinking and changing the context, Konstantin gives them a new meaning, sometimes even opposite to the original one.
Konstantin believes that the artist has the exclusive privilege of telling the truth, which in our difficult times is impossible for ordinary people.
